Way to go! The Multicultural Center for Academic Success (MCAS) won an award for hosting two “do experiences” in partnership with RIT 365. Two classes had the opportunity to do a privilege walk—an exercise that helps individuals become aware of the various privileges they may possess, look at different ways of relating to others and think about ways inclusivity can create positive changes. Alexandria Collins, interim associate director of Student Success & Engagement led the “do experiences” working with DDI colleagues Jessica Austin, associate director for HEOP and Victor Davidson, program director Upward Bound/TriO Upward Bound who lead the RIT 365 classes.

What a treat! More than 100 students got the chance to meet 99-year-old Eleanor Cannaday in-person during Diversity Theater’s Community Building Film and Workshop RIT 365 Experience. They watched the film short, DEAR ELEANOR, produced in partnership between Diversity Theater, MAGIC Spell Studios and the National War Plane Museum. It’s set in the 1940’s and is based on her courtship with Elza “Buddy” Cannaday, the first licensed and bonded African American contractor in Cleveland Ohio. The class is led by the film’s writer, director, producer and Mrs. Cannaday’s daughter, Diversity Theater Director Tina Chapman DaCosta. Following the showing, Mrs. Cannaday took questions from the audience and posed for several pictures with students. By the way, her 100th birthday is in March of this year!
