Software for Personal Computers


Software for selected applications can be obtained through site licensing and volume discount agreements. Below is a list of some of the programs that are currently available. Click on the program for more information. You can contact the RIT Service Center for more information on any of the programs listed, including any pricing that may apply.

Adobe Software

Faculty and Staff are able to install the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop Application on their personally-owned computers and sign in using their RIT computer account.

Students can only access Adobe Creative Cloud applications on shared device license computers found in RIT labs.

Apple Software

Apple software for personally-owned computers can be purchased through the RIT Digital Den.

AutoDesk ACES Subscription Agreement

Departments and faculty can use AutoDesk software products, including AutoCAD for Academic use for free. For more information contact the RIT Service Center. Students can download 13 month versions of the software at the Autodesk Student Community. To sign up, visit


ESRI designs and develops the world's leading geographic information system (GIS) technology. Its leading product - ArcGIS - is a powerful tool that can be used to analyze a wide variety of data against geographic information. Various colleges at RIT participate in the cost sharing of the license for RIT. If you are interested in joining or already participate and need access to the software, contact ITS. Predictive analytics software for scientists and engineers
As the pro version of JMP statistical discovery software, JMP Pro goes to the next level by offering all the capabilities of JMP plus advanced features for more sophisticated analysis including predictive modeling and cross-validation techniques. Users can harness the power and speed of the supercomputer on their desk to explore and understand data in an easy-to-use interface.

JMP Pro is available to Students, Faculty and Staff for academic use only and can be downloaded for Windows or macOS.

MapleSoft Site License Agreement

Departments can pay a low cost annual subscription fee for access to Maple. Maple is an advanced mathematical application for use on RIT-owned faculty and staff computers. For more information please contact the School of Mathematical Sciences. For instructions on installing this software (COS faculty/staff), please contact your system administrator.


MATLAB is a programming platform used to analyze data, develop algorithms, and create models and applications. RIT has a licensing agreement with MathWorks to provide faculty, staff and students with access to many products in the MATLAB suite. The software is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Faculty, Staff, and Students can install MATLAB on their personally owned computers if their home base is the Rochester NY campus. If you are at a global campus, you are not allowed to use this license at this time.

Microsoft Licensing Agreement

RIT has secured a licensing agreement with Microsoft to provide faculty and staff with access to the most commonly used Microsoft software and operating systems for their work computers. This agreement covers desktop and laptop computers only and does not include server software. Additionally, all faculty, staff, and current RIT students have access to Office 365, which provides online access to popular Office applications.

Minitab is statistical software.  Several departments are sharing a campus license for Minitab and Minitab Express for use on RIT-owned computers.  Both are also available to all current students and faculty on their personal computer, for academic purposes.

Office 365

Faculty and staff that have an RIT-owned device, have the Office Productivity suite installed on that computer. Additionally, Office 365 is offered to all faculty, staff, and current RIT students and provides access to popular Office applications through any internet browser.

ITS maintains an annual academic subscription site license for SAS for Windows. SAS brings you a complete suite of products for data access, data management, data analysis and data presentation. The license provides the opportunity for RIT faculty, staff and registered students to subscribe to a suite of SAS products. Reach out to your system administrator for more information.
