Classroom #3/4
Presented by Bill Schwappacher. In 1945 John Birch, an American Baptist missionary, was killed in China. Thirteen years later The John Birch Society, an ultra-right political organization, was formed in his name. This session, based on the recent book, John Birch a Life, by Professor Terry Lautz of Syracuse University, will ponder the connection and intrigue of this Cold War namesake. Bill is a long-time member and lecturer at Osher, concentrating on China, economics, and history while still working at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney after 32 years.
