 Classroom #2

Presented by Jane Eggleston (with guest Wren Green, a New Zealander) Geologically remote in the South Pacific, New Zealand evolved a remarkable, bird-dominated ecology. The planet's last large landmass to be settled by humans (about 1250 AD), subsequent human impacts have been severe on both landscapes and wildlife. This overview of New Zealand's natural history is a tale of loss, redemption and changing values. Jane is a retired geologist. Her guest co-presenter is Wren Green, PhD, a retired animal ecologist who worked for the New Zealand Forest Research Institute and, later, the Department of Conservation.
