One-Session Class: Textiles of West Africa

Presented by Robin Weintraub. Textiles provide a lens through which we can learn about history, gender roles, commerce and power. This class will present the basic types of cloth found in West Africa, along with descriptions of their manufacture, meaning and use. Slides and actual examples of various types of cloth used in West Africa will be used to demonstrate the creativity and function of cloth in this geographic area.
