Pfaudler Lecture: Rochester Looks to the Skies: A Local History of Aviation
Presented by Greece Historical Society and Museum President, Bill Sauers. Although history tells us aviation started with the Wright brothers in 1903, it wasn't until 1909-1910 that aviation really got off the ground and the public took notice. Rochester was no exception to aviation fever, beginning with the organization of the Rochester Aero Club in 1909 and the first flights here in 1910. In this lecture-PowerPoint presentation Bill will give a short history of early aviation, tell about early Rochester aviators, the first airfields in this area, how Rochester contributed to aviation during World War I, and many more fascinating facts of the local characters who tried to, or actually did, fly those early aeroplanes.
