Presented by Larry Iwan, Musician and Didgeridoo EnthusiastThe didgeridoo is a traditional folk instrument of the Australian Aboriginal people--a 1 to 2 meter-long horn made from a termite-hollowed eucalyptus trunk. With no valves or fingerholes, it produces a low-pitched single note with a few overtone toots. Players create rhythms and tonal variations using breath control, mouth movements, and vocalization. Fascinated by this haunting, mystical sound and its deep cultural roots, Larry Iwan purchased a didgeridoo, learned to play, and eventually traveled to Australia to meet Aboriginal people and receive instruction from master players. He will share the sounds of the didgeridoo and insights into how modern culture has impacted these ancient traditions.
