A three-year, multi-million dollar project is about to start on RIT’s 1,800 rooms and nearly 400 bathrooms in 13 residence halls, the first major sprucing up since renovations were done more than 20 years ago.

RIT and its Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Detachment 538 were presented the 2021 Department of Defense ROTC and Higher Educational Institution Partnership Excellence Award this morning. The award recognizes the detachment’s success as well as RIT’s contribution to the program.

The Student Hall for Exploration and Development (SHED) will look like nothing else on the RIT campus when construction ends next year.

The Society for the Protection and Care of Children (SPCC) was founded in Rochester, N.Y., in 1875, and yet there are many people in the city who are not familiar with the organization. On Thursday, Nov. 3, RIT’s College of Art and Design, College of Liberal Arts, and School of Individualized Study invites the community to a performance by Radical Reversal, a five-piece experimental poetry band.

A room in Slaughter Hall seats 150 students and is meant to simulate the learning spaces in the Student Hall for Exploration and Development (SHED) that will hold classes next fall. The Slaughter classroom, dubbed the “betaSHED,” combines three rooms to give professors and students a preview of the large-scale learning environment.

After a two-year hiatus, RIT’s College of Art and Design reintroduced the Charrette, a unique, weeklong design challenge in which students must create a wearable sculpture that communicated the idea of memory. In addition to other prizes awarded, the work of 15 students was selected to appear on the runway during Fashion Week Rochester, set for Oct. 13-15.
