RIT Fraternity Members Will be Perched Atop a Pole Sept. 7-10

RIT’s Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity has been ‘pole sitting’ during the first week of classes for the past 13 years.

The first few weeks of classes at colleges and universities nationwide often bring with it a plethora of outrageous antics to liven school spirit and introduce new students to campus traditions. Rochester Institute of Technology is no different; the brothers of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity are sponsoring their 13th annual Pole Sit 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Sept. 7-10. Yes, they actually sit atop a 40-foot- tall telephone pole overlooking RIT’s Quarter Mile.

Sigma Alpha Mu is also encouraging RIT faculty and staff to spend some quality time with fraternity members on the pole. The group will raise money through donations for the Make-a-Wish Foundation; last year’s Pole Sit raised more than $2,000 for the organization.

WHAT: Pole Sit fundraiser sponsored by RIT’s Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity. Related activities include a barbecue, dunk tank, blindfolded maze, water balloon fights and fireworks display on Sept. 10.
