Orientation Leadership Opportunities

Orientation Leaders

Orientation Leaders (OLs) must be self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented. Other qualities include being creative, taking direction from their superiors, providing leadership to their Orientation group, and having a sincere desire to make a difference in the lives of new students and their families. Orientation involves constant adaptation, reorganization, and evaluation. Orientation Leaders must be flexible and always ready and willing to make decisions, take initiative, and take on additional responsibilities as needed. Orientation Leaders will be responsible for a group of new students and are supervised by a team of Orientation Supervisors. They must also work collaboratively with Student Orientation Coordinators (SOCs) and Professional Staff.

Orientation Supervisors

Orientation Supervisors (OSs) must be self-motivated, organized and detail-oriented. Other qualities include being creative, taking direction from their superiors and giving direction to their Orientation Leader (OL) team, supervising and holding their OL team accountable, and having a sincere desire to make a difference in the lives of new students and their families. Orientation Supervisors must be flexible and always ready and willing to make decisions, take initiative, and take on additional responsibilities as needed. Orientation Supervisors will not be responsible for a group of new students and are supervised by the Professional Staff and Student Orientation Coordinators (SOCs).

Orientation Program Assistants

Orientation Program Assistants (OPAs) must be willing to wear multiple hats, self-motivated, highly organized, task and detail-oriented, and excel at working autonomously in a fast-paced environment. OPAs will ensure the smooth operation of various processes that contribute to the productivity and efficiency of the New Student Orientation. Orientation involves constant adaptation, reorganization, and evaluation. OPAs must be ready and willing to take initiative and make decisions. OPAs will ensure organizational effectiveness by managing administrative functions during Orientation and help support the New Student Orientation office in various capacities. This is a behind-the-scenes position. OPAs will not be responsible for a group of new students and are supervised by the Professional Staff and Student Orientation Coordinators (SOCs).

Student Orientation Coordinators

Student Orientation Coordinators (SOCs) must possess effective communication skills, the ability to manage several different projects and deadlines at once, problem-solving techniques, and advanced critical thinking skills. SOCs will assist in the coordination and implementation of various activities that lead up to and occur during New Student Orientation. SOCs will focus primarily on selection, recruitment, training, and supervision for the Orientation Program Assistants, Orientation Supervisors, and Orientation Leaders, as well as the Orientation program experience as a whole for incoming students.
