Investigations and Reviews
Investigations
The Office of Compliance and Ethics promptly, thoroughly, and impartially reviews, assesses, and investigates certain complaints involving RIT employees. Complaints within the scope of OCE include allegations of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation based on protected categories that fall under C06.0 - Policy Prohibiting Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation, among other policies. Other areas of investigation include conflicts of interest (C04.0 - Conflict of Interest and Commitment Policy), export control, and retaliation for engaging in a protected process.
Within the Office of Compliance and Ethics, the Title VI and Title IX Office oversees investigations involving allegations of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation based on protected characteristics within its jurisdiction. The office conducts prompt, thorough, equitable, and impartial investigations of complaints involving employee respondents accused of sex- or gender-based discrimination, harassment, retaliation, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, or stalking. For matters involving student respondents, the Title VI and Title IX Office provides oversight and compliance review to ensure investigations and resolution processes are conducted in accordance with applicable laws and university policies. Investigations and oversight activities are carried out in accordance with applicable federal and state laws and university policies, including C06.0 - Policy Prohibiting Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation, C27.0 – Policy on Title IX Sexual Harassment for Faculty, Staff, and Students, and D19.0 Student Gender-Based and Sexual Misconduct Policy.
RIT strictly prohibits retaliation against individuals who in good faith report suspected policy violations or participate in investigations, audits, or legal proceedings.
