On-campus fundraiser and Blood Donation drive set for next week

A Message from President Munson and Dr. Johnson, Senior Vice President for Student Affairs

Dear RIT Community:

Earlier this week, the Kahramanmaras Earthquake devastated communities throughout southern Turkey and northern Syria. As response efforts continue, the destruction has left thousands without shelter, power, and essential aid.

This catastrophic natural disaster is overwhelming to communities directly impacted and touches the lives of RIT students, faculty, and staff. Earlier this week, we contacted students from the affected areas to offer support. In addition, we have now learned that several employees have family members and friends in the impacted areas. As a community, it is important to provide aid. Below are a few ways for you to help:

Student Government Supply Drive & Fundraiser
RIT Student Government will host a supply drive and fundraiser for the Turkish Society of Rochester. You can drop off blankets, warm weather clothing, and hygiene products at the Student Government office starting Monday, February 13, through February 28. You can also donate funds to the local organization. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to contribute.

American Red Cross
To ensure blood remains available for those in impacted areas, please consider donating blood and/or platelets. The blood drive is open to everyone on campus. You can donate by visiting RedCrossBlood.org or register for the RIT on-campus Red Cross Blood Drive, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, February 16, in the SAU 1829 Room.

As you consider opportunities to make financial contributions to support relief efforts, review Charity Navigator’s “5 Steps to Informed Giving”. You can also use the “Charity Search” tool to research organizations you are considering for a donation.

Thank you for your care and concern for our global communities during this critical time of need.

With Gratitude,

David Munson
President
