Committee Charge & Goals

The University Survey Committee will review proposed new surveys; coordinate survey administration timelines; maintain an annual survey calendar; promote survey best practices; and foster the dissemination and use of results. Recommendations from this committee will be shared with the IR Advisory Council for their endorsement.

The goal of this committee is to increase awareness around on-going campus wide surveys; improve survey administration practices & the quality of campus wide surveys with an eye towards equity and accessibility; and reduce survey fatigue and burden on our students and employees.

Scope

Any student, faculty or staff survey efforts that span across multiple units or colleges are advised to go through the University Survey Committee review process. Examples include:

  • Surveys that are administered to an entire body of students, staff or faculty
  • Surveys that are administered to entire subpopulations based on year level, gender, ethnicity, etc.
  • Surveys that are administered across multiple units or colleges
  • Surveys that have a broad purpose or used for institutional improvement

Prospective students, alumni or retiree surveys are outside of the scope of this committee. If you are not sure whether your survey should go through the committee review, please email Institutional Research, Data and Analytics at instresearch@rit.edu. The need for a review will be made on a case-by-case basis.
