Commuter students are an essential part of the RIT community. Whether you’re commuting from home or living off campus, Commuters at RIT is here to help you feel connected, supported, and confident as you navigate campus life.
From Orientation through your first semester and beyond, we offer programs, resources, and events designed specifically for commuter and off-campus students.
Welcome Days and Orientation
Incoming first-year students are required to participate in New Student Orientation, and must check in for Orientation during our first Welcome Day on Monday, Aug. 17.

Commuter Welcome
Tuesday, Aug. 18 | 5:30–7:30 p.m.
Campus Center, Bamboo Rooms
To kick off the semester, new commuter students are invited to the Commuter Welcome, designed for first-year commuter students and transfer students living off campus.
At the Commuter Welcome, you’ll:
- Meet fellow commuter students
- Learn about campus resources tailored to your needs
- Enjoy dinner
- Have a chance to win prizes, including a free reserved parking permit for the 2025–26 academic year

Get Involved: Club n Grub
Tuesday, Aug. 25 | 5 p.m.
Student Alumni Union, 1829 Room
Club n Grub is a casual way for commuter students to connect and get involved early in the semester.
Grab a taco, meet other commuter students, and head over together to the Tiger Activities Fair to explore clubs, organizations, and involvement opportunities.
