While sharing insights from her own transformative journey, Patricia Moore, a distinguished designer and trailblazing alumna of the class of 1974, encouraged this year’s RIT graduates to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead and answer the call for change.

Motivated RIT freshman Brayden Levangie wastes no time designing his own curriculum to advance his AI and robotic research while at college. Levangie is a first-year student in RIT’s School of Individualized Study from West Boylston, Mass.

Tom Connor, former vice president of creative marketing at Walt Disney Co., has been appointed assistant provost at RIT. In addition, Connor, an alumnus of RIT’s School of Film and Animation, has also been named the Paul and Francena Miller Chair in International Education and will serve as a professor of practice in RIT’s College of Art and Design.

In his welcome to the community for the start of a new academic year, RIT President David Munson asserted the university is well positioned to thrive while laying out “challenges, opportunities, and vision” for RIT’s future.

As students and faculty return to classes, generative AI tools are presenting many challenges and opportunities. At RIT, the community is acknowledging that generative AI is here to stay and can be used as a force for good.

RIT has named Prabu David as its new provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs, which is the university’s top academic officer. David, who has served as vice provost for faculty and academic staff development, interim vice provost for Teaching and Learning Innovation, and dean of the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University, joins RIT on Aug. 1.
