As students from across the country apply to apprenticeship and fellowship experiences through the Army Educational Outreach Program, a goal of its centers, laboratories, partner sites and program staff is to make sure students are set up for success. It’s a collaboration that happens with program managers and those administering AEOP at Rochester Institute of Technology.

RIT Certified offers professional training course for L3Harris technicians
Twelve technical specialists from L3Harris are part of a high-tech workforce development pilot program at Rochester Institute of Technology learning how to build the “brains” inside electronic devices. This first cohort of students is part of the region’s broader economic development initiatives to expand industries such as advanced manufacturing.

RIT names Prabu David as provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs
RIT has named Prabu David as its new provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs, which is the university’s top academic officer. David, who has served as vice provost for faculty and academic staff development, interim vice provost for Teaching and Learning Innovation, and dean of the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University, joins RIT on Aug. 1.

RIT receives U.S. State Department grant to increase diversity in study abroad opportunities
RIT is one of 34 U.S. colleges and universities to be awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of State’s Increase and Diversify Education Abroad for U.S. Students (IDEAS) Program. RIT received $35,000 for its initiative European Deaf Culture: A Pilot Program in Community Engaged Learning.

STEP scholar presents at Genius Olympiad
Alexia Savage, a STEP scholar from Rush-Henrietta, has an academic resume that trumps many adults’. Just from this year’s Terra Fair, the 16-year-old high school junior walked away with seven awards, honors and other recognitions that also helped punch her ticket to present at Genius Olympiad -- an international science fair hosted by RIT.

Graduate students in RIT’s health systems management program are learning this week about how the industry works in Sweden from health care administrators and practitioners. The eight-day study-abroad course, Health Systems Analysis and Innovation, gives students insights into a different health care model and the nuanced reasons it works well for the Swedish culture.

RIT and FDA test digital therapy/avatar to treat addiction, reduce intimate partner violence
Researchers from five colleges at RIT are testing a new way to deliver mental health therapy to people struggling with alcohol/drug addiction and aggressive behavior. RIT is running a randomized clinical trial with the Food and Drug Administration to test the therapy platform “RITchCBT” as a tool for treating people whose substance use disorders have led to intimate partner violence.
