Diplomas

Once degrees are conferred and certified, the Office of the Registrar will order diplomas for graduates. When conferred, the degree appears on the graduate's official academic transcript. The diploma will have the university's official seal, signature of the President of the University, and Chair of the Board of Trustees.

Paper Diplomas

Our trusted partners at Paradigm will print and mail your paper diplomas. Once degrees are certified and conferred, a diploma will be mailed to your diploma mailing address about 4-6 weeks after the conferral date. An email will be sent to your RIT email address when your diploma ships.

Once orders are placed by the Office of the Registrar, most graduates will receive their diploma within 6-10 business days.

All graduates will receive both a printed physical and electronic diploma.

Printed Physical Diploma

All undergraduates and graduates will receive an 12" x 10" diploma mailed to them once the degree is conferred and certified.  Doctoral graduates will  receive an 14" x 11" diploma. An email will be sent to your RIT email address once the diploma is shipped from Paradigm.

Electronic Diploma

Electronic diplomas will become available to students once their degree is conferred and certified. An email will be sent to your RIT email address from Parchment (our transcript and electronic diploma partner) with a link to your electronic diploma.

Once the Office of the Registrar places the order for diplomas, Paradigm will ship diplomas directly to students within 6-10 business days. International shipments will vary by country, however, most will be delivered within 6-8 weeks. Graduates from RIT global campuses will have their diplomas shipped directly to their home campus for distribution from the Office of the Registrar.

Yes, you will receive an email from the Office of the Registrar notifying you that your diploma is on the way to you.

Damaged diplomas can be frustrating for you. We find that USPS 99% reliable, but there is the occasional damaged diploma even though the mailer is clearly marked ‘DO NOT BEND”. If your diploma was damaged, we ask that you either email us a picture of the damaged diploma or send it back to us within 30 days of receiving it. It will be replaced at no cost to you.

At this time tracking is only available for doctoral graduates and international graduates. Tracking information will be in the email notification you will receive notifying you that your diploma was mailed.

Your name on the diploma is based on your selection during the graduation application process. When you apply to graduate, you can select either your primary (legal) name or specify your diploma name.

If your legal name is not correct in SIS, please complete the Change of Name form and submit it with the required documentation.

Once you confirm that the financial or thesis hold has been resolved and removed, email us at registrar@rit.edu with your name and UID to request the release of your diploma.

Minors are not included on diplomas. They are, however, listed on your official academic transcript.

You can request a apostilled copy of your diploma by submitting a request through our Parchment storefront. When ordering an apostille, you must either attach a copy of your diploma or include a request for a transcript at time of order that you wish for us to notarize. Replacement Diploma

If you need an additional or replacement paper diploma, you can order one through our trusted partner, Paradigm. All requests for replacement diplomas must go through the Paradigm storefront using the link below. Requests made by paper, email, phone, or other methods outside of Paradigm will not be processed.

What Diploma Credential Can Be Ordered Through Paradigm?

Graduates can request a replacement paper diploma using either standard (30 days) or 3-Day rush processing time.

3 Day Rush: 3 Days (1 business day processing + 2 business days production)

  • Domestic Diploma Requests: $50 Replacement Diploma Fee + $100 Domestic Expedited Shipping
  • International Diploma Requests: $50 Replacement Diploma Fee + $200 International Expedited Shipping

Electronic Diplomas

A electronic diploma is a secure PDF version of your paper diploma. You will receive an email from Parchment sent to your RIT email address once your degrees are conferred and certified. This email will explain how to claim your electronic diploma within 7 days of issuance. Once you receive your electronic diploma, it will be accessible through your Parchment account. You can login with your RIT account to download and share it at no cost.
