Message to RIT Community

Statement on the situation in Iran

Watching the horrific events unfolding in Iran following the death of a young woman in police custody is heartbreaking. Following the tragic death of Mahsa Amini, countless Iranian citizens have taken to the streets to protest inequity, violence, abuse, and sexism at the hands of an oppressive government. With frequent internet blackouts in Iran, the global community has an obligation to focus on and amplify the voices of the Iranian people in these challenging times.

At RIT, we join the voices of those fighting against the injustice the world is witnessing in Iran. We support the RIT faculty and students who call Iran home, and we stand with our fellow educators at Sharif University in condemning the actions of the Iranian security forces that stormed the campus this week.

We acknowledge the pain that members of our community may be experiencing in response to the situation in Iran. The university has reached out directly to our Iranian students, and campus resources are available to assist our students and colleagues directly affected by this conflict.
