RIT Anime Club Prepares for Two-Day Convention: Tora-Con 2010 April 24-25

Conference features impressive line-up of anime superstars

The anime extravaganza Tora-Con 2010 will be held on campus April 24-25.

Most kids today are probably familiar with anime—the Japanese art form made popular by television shows like Dragon Ball Z, Naruto and Yu-Gi-Oh. However, the student-run Anime Club at Rochester Institute of Technology was formed to enlighten the community about the rich history and beauty of the art form as well as its place in Japanese culture. To help further that education, the club hosts its annual Tora-Con anime convention 9 a.m.-3 a.m. April 24 and 9 a.m.-7 p.m. April 25 on the RIT campus. Admission is $30 for both days; $20 for Saturday only and $15 for Sunday only.

Convention guests scheduled to appear include Billy West, an actor best known for his voice work on Ren & Stimpy, Doug and Futurama. West’s most notable film work was in Space Jam where he provided the voice of Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd. West will sign autographs; however, there is a limit of three items per person.

Other guests scheduled to appear include Eric Vale, the voice of Trunks in Dragon Ball Z; Johnny Yong Bosch, the Black Ranger from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and voice of Ichigo in Bleach; Monica Rial, an anime voice actor for more than 10 years. All guest appearances are subject to studio responsibilities; and Christopher Sabat, a well-known actor who has voiced characters on Dragon Ball Z. In addition to guest appearances, the event will feature performances by Geek Comedy Tour and Eyeshine, vendors, contests, Web comic artists and charity auctions.
