Length of Service

The RIT Length of Service program is our way of honoring the incredible dedication and "Tiger Pride" that faculty and staff bring to campus every day. This recognition isn't just about a date on a calendar; it’s a celebration of the lasting impact you've made on the RIT community and the students we serve.

For Honorees: Celebrating Your Milestone

At Rochester Institute of Technology, our greatest strength is the dedication of our "Tigers." The Length of Service (LOS) Program is designed to honor the commitment, innovation, and hard work that faculty and staff contribute to our community over the years. Whether you have been here for five years or fifty, your journey is a vital part of RIT’s legacy, and we are proud to celebrate these milestones with you.

Eligibility

RIT celebrates your dedication beginning at the five-year mark. All regular faculty and staff receive a commemorative certificate after 5 years of continuous service. Upon reaching 10 years of service, and every five-year milestone thereafter, honorees also become eligible to select a celebratory gift.

To view your personal milestones, login to Workday and navigate to your Profile. You can find your "Continuous Service Date" under the Job Details section.

Gifting

Gift Selection & Notification: Each quarter, eligible honorees will receive a milestone notification from the Length of Service team (los@rit.edu) with instructions on how to select their gift. RIT is proud to offer meaningful options, including unique items from Shop One (handcrafted by RIT alumni) or Tiger Bucks, which are loaded directly onto your RIT ID card for use at various campus locations.

Receiving Your Certificate: To ensure your milestone is celebrated within your team, your official Length of Service certificate is sent to your department liaison, who will coordinate its presentation to you. If you would like to know who your designated liaison is, please contact us at los@rit.edu.

For Managers: Recognizing Your Team

As a manager, you play the most critical role in making a service milestone feel meaningful. Acknowledging an employee's tenure is a powerful way to foster belonging and appreciation.

Best Practices for Recognition

  • Make it Personal: Avoid generic messages. Reference specific projects or qualities the employee brings to the team.

  • Public vs. Private: Some employees love a shout-out in a staff meeting; others prefer a quiet "thank you." When in doubt, ask them!

  • Timeliness: Try to present the certificate as close to the actual anniversary date as possible.

  • Connect: Ask your employee what they are most proud of during their time at RIT.
