Copilot Course Design Assistant

To support RIT faculty in course design and development, and in collaboration with ITS, the CTL has built and published a specialized Course Design Assistant with Microsoft Copilot. This AI agent was designed to provide concise, evidence-based responses to user prompts, and support best practices in teaching and learning.

Overview

Generative AI (GenAI) chat tools are widely available for public use but the output can be unhelpful due to long responses, hallucination, or over-generalization. These limitations can make interactions with GenAI tools a frustrating waste of time, as generating useful output requires thoughtful prompting, which takes time and effort. Our team has done some of the work for you by developing a Course Design Assistant to support your course design and development work at RIT.

Click here to open Copilot, then follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your rit.edu account
  2. In the lefthand sidebar, click the "Agents" icon
  3. Search for "Course Design Assistant"
  4. Pin the agent so that it stays in your sidebar for future use
  5. Click on the agent and type a prompt to begin using it

The simple guide below can help you get the most out of the Course Design Assistant agent.

Disclaimer Statement

RIT provides enterprise-level data protection for Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, and Notebook LM. If faculty choose to use GenAI as part of their workflow, we encourage them to take advantage of ITS-supported, institutional tools. For more information, visit the ITS Generative AI web page.

While the CTL remains neutral on the issue of using GenAI as part of teaching and learning, we advocate for transparent, ethical use of GenAI tools. GenAI cannot and should not replace human judgment, so your expertise and oversight are necessary when using GenAI tools, including this Course Design Assistant.
