Not-A-Bowl Bowl

Lella Vignelli’s description of design as a process of taking away prompted John Monaco to consider what happens when a bowl is reduced to its rim. Working with the glassmaking team at Corning, he developed a process of cutting portions from an oversized rim surrounding a small bowl. The resulting form asks how much can be removed before an object stops being a bowl.
