Reality Television Star to Speak at Vignelli Center for Design Studies

Lisa Roberts, star of ‘My Design Life,’ to visit campus and lecture on design

Designer, author, and reality television star Lisa Roberts hopes to share her vast catalog of design knowledge with students at Rochester Institute of Technology during a visit to the Vignelli Center for Design Studies.

Roberts, featured in the television series My Design Life, will be the guest lecturer as part of the Vignelli Design Conversations lecture series. Roberts’ lecture will be at 4 p.m. Oct. 26 in Webb Auditorium, James E. Booth Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public.

As part of her visit, Roberts will also lead a round table discussion with graduate students at 2 p.m. Oct. 27 on the fourth floor of the Vignelli Center for Design Studies.

Roberts is featured in the TV series My Design Life, which premiered in the summer of 2011 on Ovation TV. The 10 half-hour episodes follow Roberts and her team as she researches possible products to be featured in her second book, DesignPOP - Popular Trends in Contemporary Product Design.

Before starring in her own TV show, Roberts authored the book Antiques of the Future. She began her career as an architect and soon moved to product and graphic design.

Roberts is a trustee of the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum of the Smithsonian and serves on the executive committee. She has also served as the vice chair of the National Design Awards. Roberts is a trustee of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and is a longstanding board member of the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s modern and contemporary design group. She also is an active supporter and honorary board member at the Charter High School for Architecture and Design in Philadelphia, the first design focused charter high school in America.
