Driving Change on Nonprofit Boards

Nonprofit boards and managers are facing increasing challenges in the 21st century. Budgets are more restricted, attracting qualified employees and board members is an escalating problem, and technology, like cyber security, increases the complexity of decision-making. RIT alumni who are nonprofit board members are always looking for state of the art information to apply to their organizations in these environments.

The RIT Alumni Association is delighted to present a one-hour interactive webinar covering three high profile nonprofit governance topics:

- What Makes a Great Nonprofit Board Member? Some Unique Suggestions
- CEOs Need to Develop Partnering Relationships with Board Members
- Common Practices Nonprofit Boards Need to Avoid

A number of RIT alumni are volunteer board members or senior managers at nonprofit organizations. For example, David B. Jones '67 (SCB) is the Chief Executive Officer of the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation. Previously, he headed a nonprofit consulting firm for 28 years.

The webinar will be moderated by Dr. Eugene (Gene) H. Fram, professor emeritus, RIT's Saunders College of Business. His governance blog on nonprofit governance has about 2,500 followers and counting.
At RIT he has been the recipient of an Eisenhart Outstanding Teaching Award and the Presidential Medallion, given to those making outstanding contributions to the university. In 2012, a former student anonymously contributed $3 million to endow an RIT Chair in Critical Thinking in his name, an honor Dr. Fram describes as 'a professor's dream come true!'
He has served on 12 nonprofit boards overseeing diverse community, national, and professional organizations, and has served on five for-profit boards. His particular passion is helping nonprofit boards perform at high levels. Significantly more is expected of these boards today than most people realize.
Dr. Fram also is an author of two recently published books on nonprofit governance, 'Going for Impact' and 'Policy vs. Paper Clips.'
