How Deep Learning Is Poised to Forever Change Your Life

We are perhaps living in the 4th industrial revolution, where AI will change our lifestyles. We may experience a greater improvement in quality of life than any prior generation. On the contrary, we may experience job replacement and/or a further divide between the have and have-nots.

Deep learning methods are at the core of recent AI progress. This talk will take a peek under the hood at how they work.

Technology is improving at an exponential pace. Unlike today's workforce which could retire at a profession started early on in one's career, the workforce of tomorrow may have to reinvent themselves more than once before retiring.

Raymond Ptucha '02, '13 / Assistant Professor, Computer Engineering and Director, RIT Machine Intelligence Laboratory

Ray Ptucha is an RIT alum with a masters degree in Imaging Science, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science. He also holds a BS in Computer Science and a BS in Electrical Engineering from SUNY Buffalo. He currently serves as Assistant Professor in Computer Engineering in the Kate Gleason College of Engineering, specializing in machine learning, computer vision, robotics, and embedded control.
Prior to joining RIT's faculty ranks, Ray was a research scientist with Eastman Kodak Company for 20 years. He worked on computational imaging algorithms and was awarded 31 U.S. patents with another 19 applications on file.
In 2010, Ray was awarded an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship for his advanced studies at RIT, and his Ph.D. research earned the 2014 Best RIT Doctoral Dissertation Award.
Ray is a passionate supporter of STEM education and an active member of his local IEEE chapter.
