Overcoming Life’s Obstacles

Learn how changing your mind set, your physical condition, and your spiritual outlook can be the key to clearing a path to a successful life. Everyone faces obstacles and some are bigger than others. Obstacles can be overcome, you just need to know how to move past them.

Keith Koster BS ‘09 is a U.S. Navy veteran, a three-time cancer survivor, and a multiple 46-er Adirondack Peaks climber. In 2019, his third 46er climb was completed to celebrate The American Legion’s 100th Anniversary, and the effort landed him on the cover of the national American Legion Magazine. He has built on his significant life experience to develop a successful career and Xerox and also serve as a motivational speaker.

Keith Koster is a resident of Saratoga Springs, NY where he is active in the American Legion Adirondack Post 70 and the Boys Scouts as Charter Representative for both Troop 70 and Pack 12 and a District Trainer for Scouting BSA. He graduated from Shenendehowa High School in 1980 and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1982. He service in the United States Navy from May 1982 to April 1988. He went to boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois. He trained to become an Electronic Warfare Technician in Pensacola, Florida before joining his ship the USS Suribachi (AE-21) at Naval Weapon Station, Earle, New Jersey. He received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and two-(2) Sea Service Deployment Ribbons before being discharged Honorably as a Petty Officer 1st Class (EW1).

 After the Navy Keith worked briefly for the NYS Thruway Authority before joining Xerox Corporation. He is an Area Service Manager for Xerox Corporation covering Albany/Syracuse/Binghamton area.  He has worked for the last 31 years at Xerox Corporation.

                He has been in the American Legion for twenty-(20) years and is a Paid-up-for life Member. He served in various positions in the American Legion up to and including 3rd & 4th District Department Vice Commander. Currently the Judge Advocate for the 4th District American Legion, Finance Officer for Saratoga American Legion and Chaplain for Adirondack Post 70 in Saratoga Springs, NY. A Graduate the American Legion College in 2015. As a member of the Post 70 American Legion Athletic Club he recently he completed the Centennial Challenge with the American Legion flag to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the American Legion. This challenge was to hike and summit all 46 high peaks in New York State with the American Legion Flag. He is already a winter 46er (6135W) in New York. He is currently running a 5K in all 11 counties of the American Legion 4th District to promote the American Legion Athletic Club which he started.
