Better Me helps RIT employees improve their quality of life by maintaining a healthy body though good nutrition, exercise, and time and sleep management through our training, exercise, nutrition consultation, and ergonomic services.

Personal Training

Better Me personal training is a one-on-one or small group service for RIT recreation members who are searching for personalized fitness planning, positive exercise coaching, and wellness accountability.

Pricing

The duration of each personal training session is either 30 minutes or 1 hour. You and your trainer will decide on a routine that works best for your schedule and your fitness goals. Cost is based on the number of hours purchased. Hours must be purchased up front, and the funds are collected from your Tiger Bucks.

1 hour = $45
5 hours = $200
10 hours = $380

Payments can be divided evenly among participants.

Group Exercise

Better Me offers a wide variety of group fitness classes like Aqua Fitness, Boot Camp, Yoga, Pilates and more. Classes are designed and adjustable for every fitness and experience level. Classes are being offered for FREE this semester (Fall 2022) and will be added to the schedule as instructors and spaces become available.

Class Descriptions

Aqua Fit helps condition and tone your heart, body, mind, and spirit with fun and fluid exercises that target muscles for endurance, strength, flexibility, range of motion, and balance. This class uses water resistance techniques and a variety of equipment, both in deep and shallow water, to allow participants to get a rejuvenating, invigorating, and effective workout. Swimming skills are not necessary.

This class will teach poses in a vinyasa (sequence of poses moving with breath) for those looking to learn the yogic flow and do stretching and strengthening exercises. Class is suitable for all yoga skill levels including beginners who can transition from floor to standing without the aid of chairs. The class will be taught in American Sign Language, and faculty/staff with basic sign language skills are welcome. Expect an energizing practice midday allowing for a quick clean up back to work! Please bring your own mat or a towel to use.

Pilates is a low-impact class designed to improve joint strength, balance, posture, coordination, and core stability. Participants are coached through the day-to-day application of learned movements.

Better Me Indoor Cycling instructors guide participants through various workout phases within each class in order to improve physical conditioning on a specialized stationary bike. Phases include warmup, steady-paced cycling, sprints, climbs, cool down, and more.

Spin and Sculpt combines training components from the circuit class and the spinning class. Participants will be coached through a series of strength and core exercises off the bike together with endurance and fat loss intervals on the bike.

Yoga is a low-impact class designed to improve posture, strength, flexibility, and balance. Participants are coached through proper technique for safety and effectiveness.

Barre Fitness is a hybrid workout class, combining ballet-inspired moves with elements of Pilates, dance, yoga and strength training. This class also focuses on high reps of small range movements.

Zumba is a dance-based cardio class that targets fat loss and lean muscle toning in the upper body, lower body, and core. Zumba is a high energy, rhythmic workout that offers a fun, party-like atmosphere.

Better Me Kettlebell class utilizes the uniquely designed kettlebell to improve strength, flexibility, balance, and cardiovascular capacity while emphasizing technique and safety.

Do you suffer from tendonitis, tight muscles, back, neck, and shoulder pain? This no-impact, low-intensity class utilizes various tools and techniques to help you feel your best! Self-Myofascial Release (Foam rolling), Dynamic Stretching, Static Stretching, and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation Stretching (PNF Stretching) are the scientifically proven methods which will be utilized heavily in this restorative class.

Better me HIIT, or High Intensity Interval Training, takes participants through a full-body workout that alternates between short, high intensity sets, followed by short recovery sets.

Better Me Boot Camp mixes traditional callisthenic and body weight exercises with interval training and strength training. Our instructors will incorporate various workout modes and equipment to ensure safe and effective fitness improvement.

Improve your overall health with equal parts cardio, strength, and flexibility to ensure a full-body workout. This versatile format will keep you engaged, energized, and feeling strong.

Strength for Performance and Cardio for Performance blend science-based training techniques and popular training modes to emphasize performance-related fitness components (power, agility, balance, speed) while maintaining and improving health-related fitness components (muscle strength, muscle endurance, cardiorespiratory fitness, flexibility, and body composition). This class is available to all levels.

This low-impact class focuses on foundational fitness components related to better exercise performance and completion of daily physical tasks. Stability and balance training contribute to improved joint health, greater force output, and efficient performance of daily movement. Through a variety of low intensity workout modes, you will perform movements for core strength, core endurance, postural correction, and coordinated balance.

Better Me’s Registered Dietitian offers nutrition advice, strategies, and resources that are individualized to the employee’s specific needs to improve disease management and enhance food choices for healthier living and effective weight loss.

NetNutrition

One of the strengths of RIT is the diversity of its faculty and staff. Many of the food choices and cuisines prepared by RIT’s Dining Services are based on the person’s background, culture, or beliefs. NetNutrition is an online tool to determine nutritional information, custom nutritional labeling, Smart Seal identifiers, nutritional counseling, cooking demonstrations, and information on food options for those with special dietary restrictions, preferences, or allergens.

Better Me offers Occupational Athletic Training, including personalized mobility, flexibility, and resistance workouts with a licensed athletic trainer (ATC). The ATC will evaluate your functional movement and help design and implement a personalized corrective exercise plan. The duration of each OAT session is either 30 minutes or 1 hour. You and your trainer will decide on a routine that works best for your schedule and your movement goals. 1 hour = $45; 5 hours = $200; 10 hours = $380. Hours must be purchased up front, and the funds are collected from your Tiger Bucks.

Better Me also utilizes a modified version of the Functional Movement Screening to help you improve your mobility and balance. The 30 minute evaluation is $30, and payments will be made through Tiger Bucks. In addition to the functional movement evaluation, you will receive a wellness assessment, a list of corrective exercises to improve functional movement weaknesses and a free follow up evaluation.

Better Me offers free ergonomic consultations on campus. Our licensed athletic trainer will provide general workstation solutions to help improve your working environment, whether you’re at home or in the office.
