Bio
Dr. Surendra (Vinnie) Gupta holds the following degrees: BTech, Metallurgical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur; MS, Mechanical Engineering, University of Rochester; MS, Metallurgical Engineering & Materials Science, University of Notre Dame; MS, Computer Science, Rochester Institute of Technology; and Ph.D., Materials Science & Engineering, University of Rochester
Dr. Gupta teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas of Materials Science, Mechanics, and Computational Methods. He is also on the faculty of graduate program in Materials Science and Engineering. Prior to joining RIT, he worked in industrial research and development for three years.
Dr. Gupta is a recipient of the Eisenhart Award for Outstanding Teaching, and the Million Dollar Principal Investigator Award.
Dr. Gupta is also the Director of the Advanced Materials Lab at RIT that helps students and faculty researchers with Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and High Resolution X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). He works with area industry and RIT faculty on several materials development and characterization projects.
Dr. Gupta is the Program Administrator for the NSF-funded TiPi Scholar Program at RIT that focuses on recruiting transfer students from 2-year schools, and retaining and graduating them from our engineering and engineering technology BS degree programs. He has had numerous leadership assignments at all levels: department, college, and university. He served on the Academic Senate for six years, and chaired the Institute Effective Teaching Committee for two years.
Dr. Gupta has been the Campus Representative for the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) since 1987, and has won numerous ASEE awards including the Robert G. Quinn Award, the Zone I Outstanding Campus Representative Award and the St. Lawrence Section Outstanding Educator Award. He also received an ASME 1997 Curriculum Innovation Award.
