The BalanX Exercise Machine is an exercise machine that allows a safe, effective, and adaptable way for individuals of all fitness and ability levels to achieve a full-body exercise. Intended for inclusive use by individuals with balance impairments, the BalanX can allow the user to exercise standing, seated on the machine's retractable bench, or from their own wheelchair with the addition of attachable wheel stoppers. The BalanX provides strong handles that can be easily adjusted for balance support from any desired exercise position within the machine, and also includes attachable exercise rings for additional overhead balance support while sitting in or getting up from the bench or a wheelchair. To avoid adjusting heavy weights from unsafe positions, the BalanX uses resistance band attachment at various heights and locations on the machine to allow exercises for over 10 muscle groups, spanning the entire body. The resistance bands vary from 5-250 pounds of resistance, allowing a truly customizable exercise experience to build muscle strength or endurance at any ability level. The BalanX comes with exercise instructions for a variety of exercises that have been approved by a physical therapist for safety and efficacy. Members of the BalanX senior design team will demonstrate the adjustable resistance amount, targeted muscle group, exercise position, height, and balance bar location to achieve a safe and effective exercise.
