Fly Larvae Dining Hall Composting

Side-by-side photos of RIT students and activities with the text See How RIT is Advancing the Exceptional underneath.

Do you have an interest in a more sustainable food system? Composting could be the solution to our mounting food waste dilemma. Our composter relies on the the larvae of Black Soldier Flies, an organism that due to evolutionarily developments cannot become an invasive species. Unlike humans these larvae aren't picky, and will eat anything from left over pizza crust to the paper fibers from the homework assignment you forgot to do. Don't be squeamish, come see what these critters can do!
