Hot Wire CNC Foam Cutter

Side-by-side photos of RIT students and activities with the text See How RIT is Advancing the Exceptional underneath.

Our team's objective is to construct a Hot Wire CNC Foam Cutter for the RIT Aero Design Team. The machine will provide a hands-free way for the Aero Team to safely, quickly, and precisely cut blocks of foam into any and all desired airfoil profiles that they design for their projects. Our design is loosely based on one that was being previously being used, but with a multitude of changes made to improve its abilities and reliability. This includes a more rigid frame structure to tighten tolerances and software which ensures that operating the new machine is quicker and simpler than the previous one.
