Solid Rocket Propellant Development

Solid propellant rocket motors in amateur high-powered rocketry are primarily limited to commercial-off the shelf options that are heavy and provide generic performance characteristics. This lack of diverse offering from commercial vendors has caused a large group of amateur rocketeers to go unserved or deal with non-optimal solutions. A robust design and manufacturing process for solid rocket motors for amateur rocketeers does not currently exist in the public domain. RIT Launch Initiative proposes the development of a standardized process to design and manufacture custom high power rocket engine units no larger than Class K (Level 2), with the intention of future use within high powered rocketry competitions.
