Melissa joined RIT in March 2021 after several years working in various sectors in higher education, including Enrollment Management, Academic Affairs, and Student Activities.  She holds a Bachelors in Sociology from Ithaca College, a Masters in Higher Education from Columbia University, and a Doctorate in Executive Leadership from St. John Fisher College.

Her professional and research interests focus on underrepresented student student success and engagement in postsecondary education.

Dr. Aponte is a proud first-generation Latina hailing from The Bronx, NY who loves reading horoscopes, mixing essential oils, and enjoying the beauty of the Finger Lakes.
