Bio

Dr. Stephen Van Lew is currently an Assistant Professor/Capstone Coordinator the Occupational Therapy Program at RIT. He holds a BS in Occupational Therapy, MS in Movement Sciences and a PhD in Health Sciences. Previously, he was the Director of Occupational Therapy at NYU Langone in NYC for 23 years. He has been the principal investigator for a number of research projects along with primary and co-authoring numerous peer review publications. His clinical and research interests are in the area of adult neurological and orthopedic rehabilitation. He continues to volunteer as Roster Accreditation Evaluator Team Chair for the American Council of Occupational Therapy Education in the accreditation assessment process for occupational therapy education programs.

This course explores the effects of wellness and disease prevention on the human lifecycle, lifestyles and overall health. Basic structure and function of selected human body systems are discussed and related to factors such as diet and nutrition, alcohol, drugs, tobacco use, stress and the environment in discussion of health promotion and disease prevention. Lecture and class discussion and student participation are used to explore health related issues.
