Welcome to Stand and Reach Game! Our project intends to address the lack of accessible toys that encourage standing and reaching for children. Working with Mary Cariola and Al Sigl, we identified the need for our toy to encourage repetitive standing and reaching motions, for kids who are building these skills for the first time. Placing a special focus on kids with disabilities and developmental delays, we wanted our toy to be accessible to a wide range of users. We encourage all children to play with our toy and give us feedback. To play, simply set up the toy so that the user has to reach up high to reach the top most buttons. Our toy can be wall-mounted, clamped to the side of a table, or it can sit on the top of a table / chair / floor. Plug it in or use the built-in rechargeable batteries, turn it on, and select the desired game mode based on the child's ability level. We have three game modes: 1) Free-play: Buttons light up and play their respective animal sound when pressed. No timer involved. Players accumulate points by pressing buttons. 2) Matching: A random animal noise is played, and players must press the button with the corresponding animal. If they are correct, they score a point. If not, the correct one lights up, and the process repeats. 3) Whack-a-mole: A group of three random buttons light up. Pressing an unlit button does nothing. Pressing a lit-up button turns its light off, scores the player a point, and plays a sound. Once all three lit-up buttons have been pressed a new set of three buttons lights up.
