Students Present Glass Design Projects to Industry Giant Corning Museum of Glass

RIT and Metaproject host award show on February 16th

Part of Metaproject’s mission is to open the door to industry and give Rochester Institute of Technology students a glance at what life on the other side is all about. On Thursday, that door begins to open.

Students from RIT’s College of Imaging Arts and Sciences will present works from this year’s Metaproject during Thursday’s juried event. Metaproject is an innovative interdisciplinary project that partners with industry. This year, the School of Design and the School for American Crafts partnered with the world-renowned Corning Museum of Glass.

Jurors will view presentations from 9 to 10 a.m. Feb. 16 at the Center for Student Innovation. The presentations are open to the public. Winners will be announced at 12:30 p.m. with a reception to follow from 1 to 2 p.m.

Industrial design majors worked together with glass program majors to explore design concepts that take advantage of glass as the primary material.

The winners will show their work during design week in New York City in May.

Jurors include Tina Oldknow, curator of Modern Glass, Corning Museum of Glass; Robert Cassetti, senior director, creative services and marketing, Museum of Glass; Eric Meek, hot glass show supervisor, Museum of Glass; and Steve Gibbs, hot glass programs manager, Museum of Glass.
