SOIS' goal is to enable students to derive the greatest possible benefit from their RIT experience.
SOIS academic advising is a continuous, proactive process where advisors and student's partner to review each student's individualized curriculum goals and build connections and networking opportunities with RIT faculty, staff, and Rochester community partners.

A SOIS advisor's role is to act as a mentor and advocate for you, as well as help you make connections with SOIS/RIT faculty, review experiential learning opportunities, such as engagement with Rochester Community Partners, and most importantly, successfully complete your degree requirements. To that end, we are committed to responding to you in a timely and effective manner.
As your advisor, we will:
Provide one-on-one advisement in a variety of ways (in person, phone or online)
Assist in identifying course work pertinent to your professional area(s) of interest
Connect you with other campus resources
Evaluate transfer, military, advanced placement, life experience, and exam credit
Inform you of any new program offerings
Respond in a timely and effective manner (2 business days or less)
As the student, you are responsible for knowing your degree requirements and being engaged in your educational journey through SOIS and RIT. Review your degree requirements each term and make yourself aware of the many learning opportunities on the RIT campus and within the Rochester Community. Not sure where to begin or have a question? As a SOIS student, you will:
Plan a course of study with your advisor
Prepare a resume and statement of educational and career goals
Complete an admissions application or change of program form
Request official transcripts from other colleges that you have attended
