The AdvanceRIT team conducts workshops with faculty and staff at RIT as part of an ongoing series of unconscious bias education and professional development to expand the capacity of RIT to meet the goals of the 2018 - 2025 Strategic Plan (found here). AdvanceRIT hosted a 3-hour Creating Vibrant Learning Environments workshop, which was created and facilitated by Dr. Linda Manning, for the faculty and staff in the College of Engineering Technology on January 10, 2019.
All full-time faculty members, academic leaders, and staff who work closely with our students are invited to attend an interactive workshop which focuses on bystander awareness and includes time for discussion, practice, role-playing (voluntary), and practical takeaways. Professor Maureen Scully from University of Massachusetts in Boston has visited RIT several times to lead effective bystander awareness education workshops through AdvanceRIT and in collaboration with RIT’s Diversity Theater.
All full-time faculty members are invited to attend an interactive workshop titled “Let’s Talk about Money: Understanding RIT Pay Practices” where participants are shown salary-related resources available today and explore how to shape future thinking and discussions regarding salary. This is a hands-on, 90-minute session where participants will ideally understand RIT’s compensation philosophy and salary practices (such as factors affecting faculty salary, compa-ratio/position to market, and moving pay to market).
On April 9-10, 2019, RIT is hosting the CRLT Michigan Players for their fifth visit since 2014. This year the performance is offered in a two-part series called Moving the Needle. We will offer two performances of the Part 1 workshop on April 9 and two performances of the Part 2 workshop on April 10.

Connect Grants are offered through funding from AdvanceRIT and the Office of the Provost with advisory support from the Innovative Learning Institute’s Faculty Career Development Services, the Division of Diversity and Inclusion, and Sponsored Research Services to support leadership and career development for all tenured and pre-tenured faculty at RIT.
A busy and exciting semester lies ahead for AdvanceRIT! We are planning a variety of workshops and are in the midst of the sixth round of Connect Grants. AdvanceRIT continues to have a goal to increase the representation, retention, and career advancement of women faculty at RIT with a focus on women faculty of color and deaf and hard-of hearing women faculty.
