The Advocates & Allies workshop on December 10, 2019 “Engaging Faculty in Institutional Transformation” was co-facilitated by AdvanceRIT and the Advocates program to explore the factors that underlie the underrepresentation of women in faculty in the STEM academic work place. Many discussions regarding the actions that call for more representation, as well as ideas on how to implement them took place during this session.
From October 28 to October 30, AdvanceRIT hosted four Active Bystander Workshops with the College of Liberal Arts (COLA).
Florence Hudson, founder and CEO of FD Hint, and Susan Puglia, retired Vice President of IBM, also hosted two interactive workshops on October 24, 2019, to provide faculty and staff with tools to advance their professional and career development as well as improve work-life integration.
Last year, Chris Hinesley, Q Center director, and Professor Alan Smerbeck in the College of Liberal Arts, were awarded an AdvanceRIT Connect Grants for their work on Gender Diversity: A Guide for Higher Education Faculty.
Through the support of the Connect Grant in AY 2017, Deirdre Schlehofer and Pi Octavian Robinson, Ph.D, have been able to release their documentary videos on their project Undocumented Voices of Deaf Women Leaders: A Historical Analysis. Deirdre Schlehofer is an associate professor in the Department of Cultural and Creative Studies and Dr. Robinson is a former colleague in the department with a specialty in history. Accepting Grant Proposals through Friday of this week (31 JAN 2020)! Consider applying for a Connect Grant funded jointly by AdvanceRIT and the Office of the Provost, with advisory support from the following departments: Faculty Development, The Diversity and Inclusion, and Sponsored Research Services, to support faculty career advancement. The grant is designed to support the leadership and career development of all tenured and pre-tenured faculty. All tenured and pre-tenured faculty at RIT are eligible to apply.
