Electrical and Computer Engineering Ph.D.

RIT is one of six U.S. universities named as part of an international partnership to improve competitiveness in computer chip design, development, and manufacturing. Micron Corp. and the National Science Foundation announced the partnership and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the 2023 G7 Summit in Japan.

RIT graduate degree programs are among the best in the nation, according to the U.S. News & World Report annual statistical survey of graduate programs.

Dimitris Chachlakis ‘21 has been selected as the recipient of the RIT Graduate School Ph.D. Dissertation Award.

RIT recently became a partner in the SUPREME Center (Superior Energy-efficient Materials and Devices), a new $34 million research center based at Cornell University. The center will focus on development of energy-efficient semiconductor materials and technologies.

Kai Ni, assistant professor of electrical and microelectronic engineering, was awarded a National Science Foundation CAREER Award to improve computing memory through the use of ferroelectric materials and capacity.

Andres Kwasinski, professor in the department of computer engineering and program director of the electrical and computer engineering Ph.D. program has co-authored a new book on “Joint Source-Channel Coding” published by Wiley, IEEE Press Series. 

Geoff Twardokus, a student in the Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering program, presented his work “Vehicle-to-Nothing? Securing C-V2X Against Protocol-Aware DoS Attacks” on May 5, 2022 at the IEEE International Conference on Computer Communications (IEEE INFOCOM).

During the RIT Doctoral Hooding Ceremony on May 6, 2022, three students from the Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering program received their doctoral degrees.

RIT graduate degree programs in engineering, science, and business were featured in the U.S. News & World Report 2023 edition of Best Graduate Schools, released in March.

Cecilia Alm, an associate professor in RIT’s College of Liberal Arts, was awarded nearly $2 million by the National Science Foundation to lead a team of RIT faculty addressing a lack of diversity in the artificial intelligence research community and gaps in AI curricula.

January 15, 2022 is the application deadline for the Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering program. 

What if computing materials were sourced in conflict areas? Or manufactured in facilities that emit higher than average toxic emissions? Researchers today are examining the development of computing systems from a different perspective, one more in line with sustainability rather than just power, performance and speed.
