January 15, 2022 is the application deadline for the Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering program. 

RIT Associate Professor Michael Schrlau and Ian Dickerson from the University of Rochester Medical Center have received a patent to deliver biomolecules into cells through carbon nanotube arrays.

Forbes has identified a few of the RIT alumni set to define the next decade—and beyond. Two RIT alumni—and a third just a few months shy of the age cut-off—were named on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for 2022. Jackie Wiley ’16 (game design and development) was honored in the Games category, and Dylan Ayrey ’15 (computer engineering) was named in the Enterprise Technology category.

RIT students have never had as many ways to pursue their love of performing arts than they do now. From scholarships, new clubs and classes, private music lessons, community partnerships, and exciting new venues being built on campus, performing arts for RIT students is literally becoming a show stopper.

RIT appointed two new members — who are also alumni — to its board of trustees. Kathy Yu ’91 has more than 20 years of experience in the technology and semiconductor manufacturing sectors. Nick Schneider ’10, ’10 MS is a principal at Boston Consulting Group, where he is a lead in the company’s technology, media, and telco sector.

Jennifer Indovina—RIT alumna, entrepreneur, international TED Fellow and adjunct faculty member—was part of the WXXI team that won a 2021 New York Emmy for its educational and career focused programming, “I Can be What?” 

Dorin Patru and Linlin Chen, faculty-researchers at RIT, received a grant from the National Science Foundation to upgrade functions of programmable memory. They, along with colleagues from University of Rochester, will develop new algorithms to improve the internal computing memory system to enable scalable and more robust performance.

Jalopnik highlights the Indy Autonomous Challenge, a software-focused autonomous vehicle competition in which a team with RIT students is a finalist.

The Kate Gleason College of Engineering was awarded a $1 million Higher Education Capital Matching Grant (HECAP) from New York state. The award will be used to upgrade and expand the college’s cleanroom facility to accommodate the growth of research in biomedical technologies such as drug delivery and lab-on-chip devices.

To build understanding of faculty compensation systems and improve conversations around salary, several RIT faculty members are sharing their experiences with a National Science Foundation-funded multidisciplinary research team. The team’s goal is to significantly expand knowledge of best practices for faculty compensation to a broader community in higher education and provide insights to guide compensation practices.  

Researchers from RIT and national photonic device company, AdvR Inc., built a quantum chip prototype that is bridging today’s traditional fiber optic networks with the future—quantum computing networks.

Many only dream of racing the historic oval at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Several RIT engineering and computing students will make that dream come true. Members of RIT’s Autonomous Vehicle team will join partner universities as finalists in the inaugural Indy Autonomous Challenge.
