Supply chain management focuses on designing and managing the connected systems that move products, services, information, and resources from suppliers to customers. In this option, you’ll build on the broad foundation of industrial engineering while gaining specialized knowledge in operations and supply chain management, logistics, simulation, production control, systems thinking, and data-driven decision making.
From improving warehouse and transportation systems to coordinating production schedules, evaluating supply chain performance, and using simulation to test operational decisions, supply chain management helps engineers create systems that are efficient, resilient, responsive, and cost-effective.
Courses in Supply Chain Management in Industrial Engineering
The supply chain management option requires courses that strengthen your ability to manage logistics, analyze complex systems, model operational performance, and coordinate production. Three electives from the following choices are required:
- Supply Chain Management: examines how organizations design, coordinate, and improve the flow of materials, information, and products across supply networks.
- Logistics Management: focuses on transportation, distribution, warehousing, and the movement of goods through efficient logistics systems.
- Simulation Analysis: applies simulation modeling to evaluate complex systems, test alternatives, and support better supply chain and operational decisions.
- Production Control: develops methods for planning, scheduling, and controlling production activities to meet demand efficiently and effectively.
Supply Chain and Logistics Jobs and Careers
A background in industrial engineering and supply chain management can prepare you for jobs in logistics and supply chain management, as well as careers in supply chain engineering, production planning, logistics, transportation, inventory management, and operations.
