Lucio Salles presents highway safety and pavement design research

Lucio Salles, assistant professor, Department of Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Management, and Safety, presented two research papers at the Transportation Research Board (TRB) 103rd Annual Meeting, in January, in Washington, D.C. His paper, “Highway Construction Safety Analysis using AI Large Language Models,” was also selected for first place in the TRB Standing Committee on Construction Management 2024 Best Poster competition. The research is part of a collaboration with peers from the University of Pittsburgh. Salles’ research focus is the intricacies of concrete pavement design and innovative approaches that leverage AI and large language models to enhance highway worker safety.
