Benefit-Cost Analysis fosters better understanding of the efficiency consequences of governmental micro-economic actions, both regulatory and fiscal. The course explores the logic, value and limitations of benefit-cost analysis as a public policy tool commonly used, and misused, in comparing the relative merits of alternative government actions.

Fundamental macroeconomic theories will be examined to explain and predict changes in economic growth, employment, inflation, consumer spending, business investment, and foreign trade. Financial markets, domestic and foreign, will be examined to understand changes in interest rates and exchange rates. The likely effects of government spending, taxes, and Federal Reserve Bank policies on the economy and business will be evaluated. This course also introduces microeconomic concepts and how they can be employed to examine business decisions such as pricing under conditions of uncertainty. Models and applications are employed that describe the efficient allocation of resources within a firm. Topics include supply and demand, consumer behavior, production, cost and pricing.

A capstone class for students in the Individualized Program bachelor of science degree program. Course provides students an opportunity to reflect upon and enhance the many aspects of their individualized educational programs and focus on future goals. Senior status is required.
