Accreditation

Institutional Accreditation

RIT is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE).

MSCHE accredits institutions that “meet rigorous and comprehensive standards, which are addressed in the context of the mission of each institution and within the culture of ethical practices and institutional integrity expected of accredit institutions.” Visit RIT's accreditation page on the MSCHE website.

Institutional Reaccreditation Process

In the fall of 2023, RIT began a university-wide self-study effort in pursuit of re-accreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) in Spring 2026. Our previous re-accreditation was approved in 2017. The 2017 site visit report from our MSCHE Evaluation Team was quite comprehensive and very positive. The report affirmed RIT successfully met all accreditation standards and the requirements of affiliation.

Accreditation in higher education is a process of peer review for colleges, universities, and educational programs. Visit the RIT Reaccreditation web page.

Specialized Program Accreditation

Many of our undergraduate and graduate degree programs are accredited by specialized accreditation agencies based on their discipline. These agencies have unique standards for assessing academic quality and student learning.

The Provost’s Office tracks and maintains accreditation-related documents (self-studies, progress reports, final reports) for academic programs that have specialized accreditation.
