Welcome to the College of Science at the Rochester Institute of Technology. The College of Science plays a vital and central role in contributing to the mission of RIT. Our goal is to remain competitive and current in the sciences and mathematical sciences and to maintain excellence in teaching and scholarship where students, faculty and staff thrive. We constantly seek approaches to strengthen our undergraduate and graduate programs, to build the College's research agenda, and to increase external partnerships and sponsors.
The College of Science houses some of RIT’s most respected disciplines including the astrophysical sciences and technology program, already recognized for seminal scholarship in that field. In addition, it is the home college of four of RIT’s eight Ph.D. programs and the parent College to the world-renowned Carlson Center for Imaging Science and the Center for Computational Relativity and Gravitation. Across every discipline, the College is the leader for the remarkable growth in RIT’s undergraduate student research programs and for the growth of peer reviewed publications and external grants awarded to its faculty each year. Its enrollments are healthy, and many of its faculty members are conducting cutting edge research that is nationally and internationally recognized.
Undergraduates in the College of Science receive a diverse and unique education in the foundations of science and mathematical sciences, have exposure to current methodology, have firsthand experience in successfully applying this knowledge to solve real-world problems as members of interdisciplinary teams, and are receiving a comprehensive liberal arts education in the humanities and social sciences. Our curricula reflect modern trends in the application of science and mathematical sciences while preparing students for graduate study and for successful lifetime careers and immediate employment in business, industry, government, medical science professions, and academia. All students are expected to complete an experiential learning component in their intended career fields as part of their graduation requirement. In addition to its degree programs, the College delivers the required scientific and mathematical underpinnings for most of the programs offered at RIT.
Come and be part of the College of Science experience and explore the opportunities. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need more information.
