Interdisciplinary team publishes article on paper mill sludge

Bilge Altay, assistant professor in the Department of Packaging and Graphic Media Science; Anamika Huq, graduate student in print and graphic media science; Richard Hailstone, associate professor in the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science; and Scott Williams, professor in the School of Chemistry and Materials Science, published “Addition of fibers derived from paper mill sludge in paper coatings: impact on microstructure, surface and optical properties” in the journal Scientific Reports. The research offers a sustainable approach to manage paper mill sludge for use in paper coatings as a high-value-added material.
