Whelan named co-chair of LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA group

John Whelan, professor in the School of Mathematical Sciences, was named co-chair of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA continuous waves analysis group, which coordinates and oversees one of the collaborations’ four major categories of observational science. As senior co-chair, Whelan also joined the Management Team of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration, which oversees collaboration activities, including giving final approval for scientific publications released by the LSC. Whelan is the principal investigator of RIT’s LIGO Scientific Collaboration group and a member of RIT’s Center for Computational Relativity and Gravitation.
