Functional pottery generates conceptual dialogue

I have found that all things have a function and I am particularly drawn to the functional object and its ability to transform the world around us. These functional objects have a profound effect on the development of humans, leading objects to contain symbolism and metaphor. I use objects and language as devices to generate a conceptual dialogue within my work. Through the production process, I began to consider how my work with clay might be translated into materials of cast bronze, iron, glass and wood. I am drawn to the tension of how materials interact with one another in sculpture; thereby, relating this tension to our understanding of objects by redefining our perception of them through the use of an unexpected or opposing material.
