RIT Honors First Graders for Their Award-Winning Video about Computing, May 5

Class from Canandaigua Primary School to be recognized as “Golisano College Kids of 2023

The B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences at Rochester Institute of Technology rolls out the red carpet on Monday, May 5, for a class of first graders from Canandaigua Primary School who produced an award-winning video about computing and technology.

The class of first-grade teacher Richard Colosi produced a music video to the song “Ain’t Gonna Hold Us Back” about the different kinds of technology used in the classroom. The video won first place in an international contest sponsored by Interwrite Learning, in partnership with TeacherTube.

The Golisano College has planned a half-day of activities for the children from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. in Building 70 on the RIT campus. Each of the students will be presented with an honorary “Golisano College Kid of 2023” T-shirt and a commemorative trophy. There will be a special screening of the winning video introduced by Golisano College Dean Jorge Diaz-Herrera. The college has a special surprise for each student that will be revealed prior to the showing of the video at 10:30 a.m. The children will also participate in various hands-on activities including a video game lesson and a card game teaching them about the concepts of binary numbering.
